A civil servant working in Antalya stated that despite earning a salary of 53,000 lira, he only eats simit for lunch on the 15th of each month due to 30,000 lira in rent and expenses. The post became a hot topic on social media, highlighting how high rents, especially in large cities, make life difficult for civil servants.
A message sent to a page that shares posts about civil servants on social media caught attention. A civil servant working in Antalya explained that their salary is insufficient against high rents and expenses.
"I ONLY SURVIVE ON SIMIT FOR 15 DAYS"
The civil servant, who works in Antalya Konyaaltı and stated that they earn 53,000 lira, included in their message, "I have a 1.5-year-old son. I pay 30,000 lira in rent. The cheapest rent is 20,000 lira, but that is 20 km away. I am drowning in debts. When I consider bills, groceries, child expenses, and my own travel and meal costs, I survive on simit for 15 days," they expressed.
Here is the message that became the agenda;
"COME TO THE EAST, RENTS ARE CHEAP"
The civil servant also stated that they can prove their economic difficulties with documents and wanted their post to remain confidential. Comments such as "Come to the East, rents are cheap... You can settle down and then leave again," "Look, this is real life," "Those who are enemies of the salaries civil servants receive should speak now," "This is the reality of this civil servant, condemning them to poverty with raises, ignoring this affects approximately 20 million people in total," and "Unfortunately, having children without securing one's own future is selfishness" were made under the post.
THE SITUATION IS GRAVE IN METROPOLITAN CITIES
On the other hand, rising rents, especially in Turkey's metropolitan cities, continue to make life increasingly difficult for civil servants and citizens with fixed incomes.
