The meteorology department published the latest weather report for Saturday, February 8, 2025. Intermittent rainfall is expected in the southern and eastern parts of Marmara, the eastern part of Central Anatolia, the Black Sea coasts, as well as in the regions of Bolu, Tokat, Artvin, and the eastern part of Eastern Anatolia, including Malatya, Şanlıurfa, and Diyarbakır. In the interior regions, mixed rain and snow will be effective.

While cold weather is expected to affect the entire country, snowfall is also predicted to continue. Additionally, warnings for storms and heavy rain have been issued, with strong rainfall and avalanche risks highlighted in some regions.



SNOWFALL AND COLD WEATHER



It is predicted that mixed rain and snowfall will continue in most parts of the country. Snowfall is expected in the eastern Marmara, eastern Central Anatolia, the Western and Central Black Sea, the eastern Black Sea coasts, and the southwestern part of Eastern Anatolia, as well as in some provinces of Southeastern Anatolia such as Kahramanmaraş, Osmaniye, and Eskişehir.



Especially in the coastal areas of Kastamonu, Sinop, Samsun, Nevşehir, Niğde, Kayseri, and Mardin, it is expected that the precipitation will be locally heavy. In the morning and evening hours, there may be frost, freezing, fog, and mist events in the inner and eastern regions.

It has been stated that there is an avalanche risk in the high areas of the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and the steep slopes of Eastern Anatolia. At the same time, warnings have been made that there may be strong frost and freezing events in the inner and eastern parts of the country, and citizens should take precautions.



STORM AND STRONG WIND WARNING



The storm will show its effects in the North Aegean, South Aegean, Mediterranean, and Black Sea regions. In the North Aegean Sea, the wind, which will start blowing from the north and northeast in the morning hours, is expected to turn into a storm with a strength of 6 to 8 in the evening hours. In the South Aegean, winds of 5 to 7 are expected.



In the Western Mediterranean, the wind blowing from the north and northwest is expected to start blowing at a strength of 5 to 7 in the Gulf of Antalya. In the northern parts of the Eastern Mediterranean, a storm with a strength of 6 to 8 is predicted to occur from the morning hours.



In the Sea of Marmara, the wind blowing from the north and northeast is also expected to turn into a storm with a strength of 5 to 7.



AVALANCHE WARNING



The meteorology department emphasized that adverse weather conditions such as precipitation, storms, and frost could negatively affect transportation, urging the public to be cautious. It was stated that special attention should be paid to avalanche risks, blizzards, and freezing conditions in high areas.



Citizens are advised to follow the weather conditions and avoid going outside unless necessary to avoid being affected by bad weather.

Meteorology General Directorate Weather Forecast Specialist Cengiz Çelik participated in an NTV broadcast and made important statements about the weather in Istanbul. Çelik stated that with an increase of 1-2 degrees in temperatures, the precipitation will turn into rain.



Çelik expressed that in high areas, the precipitation will be seen as mixed rain and snow, saying, "In high-altitude areas such as Çatalca and Silivri, mixed rain will occur. However, we do not expect these precipitation to create any snow cover."



Çelik also emphasized that the rainy weather will continue to affect Istanbul for the next 3-4 days.
