The claim of a million-dollar building in Düsseldorf became one of the striking headlines of the investigation into Melih Gökçek. Gökçek explained how the 18 apartments in Germany were purchased and how the money was sent.
CLAIM OF A MILLION-DOLLAR BUILDING IN DÜSSELDORF
The investigation came after journalist Murat Ağırel brought forward claims about the Gökçek family's companies, real estate investments, and money transfers in Germany. According to Ağırel's claims, millions of euros worth of real estate investments were made in Germany through a company named HAMAG GmbH, which was alleged to be linked to the Gökçek family.
It was claimed that the company was established in 2022 with a capital of 30,000 euros and later received high-amount money transfers from Turkey. The most striking part of the allegations was the real estate in Düsseldorf. It was claimed that HAMAG GmbH purchased a property worth millions of euros in Düsseldorf.
AN INVESTIGATION HAD BEEN LAUNCHED INTO GÖKÇEK
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched an investigation into former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek on the claim that "unregistered money was transferred to companies abroad." Gökçek, in his statement to Sinan Burhan, the President of the Turkish Press Federation, explained the process of purchasing the apartment building with 18 apartments in Germany.
"THEY SET UP A COMPANY AND BOUGHT APARTMENTS TO GET CITIZENSHIP"
Melih Gökçek stated that the real estate in Germany was purchased by his son Ahmet Gökçek and his children, saying, "My son Ahmet and his children set up a company and bought apartments to get citizenship from Germany." Gökçek also made statements regarding the financing of the property. He stated that part of the money was paid, and for the remaining portion, a financing method similar to a loan and mortgage was used.

Gökçek also said that his son Ahmet Gökçek liquidated some of his assets before the property purchase. "My son sold his house and car in Turkey," said Gökçek, arguing that the money obtained from this was sent to Germany through the bank and by legal means. While explaining the method used for the remaining payment, Gökçek cited Mansur Yavaş's daughter using a loan and mortgage when buying an apartment in England as an example and said a similar system was applied in the purchase in Germany.
