In Giresun, it was claimed that a mine owned by Alagöz Mining Company, which belongs to AK Party Iğdır Deputy Cantürk Alagöz, polluted the environment. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change took action on the matter, and inspections revealed that dirty water from the mine was being discharged into a stream. In a statement from the Ministry, it was reported that the company was fined 2 million 517 million liras.
A mining company operating in the Doğankent district of Giresun was fined 2,517,000 lira for causing stream pollution, and the production activity that led to the pollution was halted.
WASTEWATER DISCHARGED INTO THE STREAM
During inspections by the Giresun Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, it was determined that wastewater from the copper, lead, and zinc enrichment facility of Alagöz Mining Company was discharged into Çatalağaç Stream.
THIRD PENALTY FOR THE SAME VIOLATION
The company, which had previously been penalized twice for the same violation, was now subject to a tripled fine due to the repeat offense. A total administrative fine of 2,517,000 lira was imposed on the facility.
OPERATIONS HALTED
Production activities in the underground gallery causing the pollution were suspended until necessary environmental measures are taken. Authorities stated that it is mandatory to control groundwater and construct a pond for sedimentation treatment before discharge.
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY
In a statement from the Ministry, the following expressions were included: "In the inspection conducted by our Giresun Provincial Directorate teams, it was determined that wastewater from the mine of Alagöz Mining Company was discharged into Çatalağaç Stream. Within the scope of the Environmental Law, the underground gallery part of the mine that caused the pollution was closed until necessary measures are taken. Additionally, due to the repeat violation, a sanction of three times the penalty was applied, resulting in a fine of 2,517,000 TL."
