The Republic of Turkey's Ministry of Trade has made a striking decision regarding trade with Syria. The ministry announced that it has lifted restrictions on Syria.

"EXISTING RESTRICTION LISTS HAVE BEEN REMOVED"

In a statement from the Ministry of Trade, it was said, "With the new regulation governing our trade with Syria, first of all, the existing restriction lists for exports to Syria and transit operations to Syria through the Turkish Customs Zone have been removed. Goods to be exported or transited from Turkey to Syria using our land border gates opened to Syria will be subject to the same conditions as those with other countries."

DETAILS WERE ALSO SHARED

The statement also noted, "Except for metal scrap, the transit of other goods from Syria to third countries through our country has been made free. Thirdly, import operations from Syria have been normalized. The import regime with Syria has been normalized within the scope of our current foreign trade regime. Goods imported from Syria will be subject to the same conditions as those from third countries in terms of import regulations, product safety controls, and customs duties."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

After the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, the new Syrian administration had agreed to negotiate to reassess practices such as special customs duties for certain products with Turkey and to restart the free trade agreement that was halted in 2011.
