The Deputy Minister of Trade, Mahmut Gürcan, stated that they are continuing their efforts to prevent opportunism in the real estate sector following the earthquake. He announced that necessary administrative sanctions would be imposed against unjustified price increases.
Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gürcan stated, "We are closely monitoring all situations that may develop against our citizens in the real estate sector following the earthquake and continue to work tirelessly to prevent practices that may cause our citizens to suffer."
Deputy Minister Gürcan, in a statement made on his social media account, emphasized, "As the Ministry of Trade, we are closely monitoring all situations that may develop against our citizens in the real estate sector following the earthquake that occurred in Istanbul on April 23, 2025, and we continue to work tirelessly to prevent practices that may cause our citizens to suffer."
"EXPLOITATION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"
Stating that exploitation will not be tolerated, Gürcan said, "During extraordinary times like an earthquake, the importance of social solidarity, unity, and togetherness is greater than ever. It is of utmost importance for all our citizens, along with our businesses, to act with a sense of social responsibility during this sensitive period. No attitude or behavior that aims to take advantage of our citizens' difficult situation, which can be characterized as exploitation, will be tolerated. In this context, information regarding the listings of properties for sale and rent that have seen price increases following the earthquake in Istanbul is being obtained from listing platforms, and necessary administrative sanctions will be applied decisively and without delay against all real and legal persons found to have engaged in unfair price increases."
