THEY TRIED TO MAKE THE EMIR OF JORDAN A KING IN SYRIA
In the 'Special Collection' album on the MIT Presidency's website, an intelligence report dated September 14, 1944, was published regarding the activities of British intelligence officer John Philby in the Mavera-i Ürdün Emirate during that period. The report revealed England's activities in the Middle Eastern territories that came out of the Ottoman Empire. The British intelligence officer, traveler, writer, explorer, and politician John Philby, known as Abdullah Philby (1885-1960) after converting to Islam, was mentioned in the report for his activities in Mavera-i Ürdün. The report stated that the activities of Philby aimed to make Emir Abdullah, who was the Emir of Jordan at that time, a king in Syria.
The intelligence report dated September 14, 1944, from the Adana Central Directorate included the following statements:
"Mr. Abdullah Philby, the British consul in Mavera-i Ürdün and a prominent figure in the Intelligence Service, came to Beirut last week and was a guest at the house of his friend Professor Oliver in Rasülmetin. It is reported that he has visited Aliye several times and held meetings with the Mavera-i Ürdün Police Chief Abdulkadir El-Cündi and British agents Shibli Bishara and his brother Vasıf Bishara. According to what I have learned, Shibli Bishara is an important figure in the Intelligence Service in the Near East. It has been observed that this man, who has the great trust of the British, frequently travels to Baghdad and, upon his return, meets with British intelligence officers Colonel Sterling at the Senjorj Hotel in Beirut. It is estimated that the activities carried out by Abdullah Philby in collaboration with this man aimed to make Emir Abdullah a king in Syria."
