In the world-famous tourist district of Bodrum in Muğla, a seabed cleaning operation was carried out around the ancient city of Myndos, resulting in the removal of a total of 2 tons of waste, including stove pipes, liquor bottles, and tea glasses irresponsibly thrown into the sea by citizens. The sight of this trash accumulated at the bottom of the ancient heritage shocked onlookers.

With the support of the Bodrum District Governorship and Bodrum Municipality, a sea bottom cleaning operation was carried out in Gümüşlük Bay, where the ancient port of Myndos, protected as a first-degree archaeological site, is located, by the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping Bodrum Branch, Bodrum Seafarers Association, other NGOs, and volunteers. Through divers, waste including stove pipes, liquor bottles, and tea glasses were removed from the sea. The collected waste was taken by municipal teams from the area to the 1st Class Waste Collection Center in Konacık Neighborhood for recycling. Meanwhile, Bodrum District Governor Mustafa Çit and representatives of NGOs attended the event.

'THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS NOT TO POLLUTE THE SEA'

Orhan Dinç, President of the Bodrum Branch of the Chamber of Shipping (DTO), stated, "With the contributions of institutions and organizations, and the support of volunteers, we have removed approximately 2 tons of waste from the sea. Our municipality's diving team participated in these efforts. We are fighting not only against solid waste but also against liquid waste. Just like other bays, Gümüşlük is very important to us. These are temporary solutions; the most important thing is not to pollute the sea. Such an effort was made for awareness."
