THEY PASSED AWAY IN THE HOSPITAL
The incident occurred on Kumyol Street in the Reşadiye neighborhood of Çorlu. According to the information obtained, police teams were dispatched to the area after a report of a disturbance by an individual claimed to have psychological issues. Upon arriving at the scene, police officers Erkan Tütüncüler and Emrah Koç were subjected to an armed attack by the suspect. Both officers, severely injured, succumbed to their injuries despite all medical interventions at the hospital where they were taken, becoming martyrs.
CAPTURED RED-HANDED
The armed suspect, who attempted to flee after the attack, was captured red-handed by reinforcement security teams dispatched to the area. In the images reflected on the security camera of a nearby business, police teams are seen aiming their weapons at the fleeing attacker and issuing a halt warning.
After a brief struggle, with the help of bystanders, police teams subdued the suspect by pinning him to the ground, handcuffing him, and neutralizing him. The crowd that gathered on the street and the ensuing commotion after the incident were also recorded by citizens' mobile phone cameras.
MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE FROM OFFICIALS
The Ministry of Interior announced that a comprehensive investigation into the incident has been launched, while Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Candan Yüceer and Çorlu Municipality Mayor Ahmet Sarıkurt shared messages of condolence in their statements.
In his statement, Mayor Sarıkurt said, "Unfortunately, 2 of our police officers were martyred. May their souls rest in heaven. A court order was also issued for a citizen living in Istanbul with psychological issues to receive treatment. Following a report from his family, law enforcement was monitoring him to ensure he received treatment. Teams received information that he was in the arcade. Our fellow police officers checked the area. Initially they couldn't find him, but when they went out with citizens, according to the information we received, the suspect attacked one of the officers with a sharp object and martyred him. Then he martyred our other colleague. There was an assessment regarding a bomb near the hospital, but our law enforcement forces neutralized it as a precaution; however, there is no dangerous situation."
Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Candan Yüceer stated, "This is truly a very sad incident. I pray for mercy from Allah for our 2 heroic martyrs. I wish patience for their families. May Allah protect our soldiers and police from harm."
