U.S. forces struck the advanced base ship IRIS Makran, which has a flight deck of approximately 228 meters suitable for launching missiles and drones, converted from an Iranian naval oil tanker, at the Bender Abbas naval base. The hit ship sank shortly thereafter.
The UAV ship IRIS Shahid Bagheri, which is among the most important weapons of the Iranian Navy and was commissioned in February of last year, sank after being hit in an airstrike conducted by the US military.
The massive ship, which included air defense systems, special forces teams, medical facilities, multiple supply stations, and various military units, was made available for use by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on February 6, 2025.
ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT LOSSES OF THE WAR
After the "friendly fire" incident caused by the Kuwaiti army yesterday, which resulted in the downing of 3 F-15s, the US military inflicted one of the greatest damages on Iran by sinking the Shahid Bahman Bagheri ship on the fourth day of the war.
The giant ship, which had an operational range of 22,000 nautical miles, was capable of operating for a year without refueling.
FIRST UAV CARRIER SHIP
Shahid Bakiri (IRIS Shahid Bagheri) was known as the first UAV carrier ship of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Navy. The container ship named Perarin, built in South Korea in 2000, was converted for military purposes between 2022 and 2024.
With a length of approximately 240 meters and a displacement of 42,000 tons, the ship could carry unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters, and assault boats thanks to its 180-meter runway. Shahid Bakiri was commissioned on February 6, 2025. It was reported that the ship was hit by US forces on March 3, 2026, and sank.
