The attacker who approached a police officer from behind and stabbed him in the neck in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul was arrested by the court on charges of 'Attempted murder' and sent to prison. IT HAS EMERGED THAT HE HAS A SIGNIFICANT CRIMINAL RECORDThe incident occurred around 10:50 AM yesterday on İstiklal Street. According to the information obtained, the suspect approached the police officer on duty from behind and attacked him with a knife, injuring the officer in the throat. The police officer was taken to the hospital for treatment, while the attacker was quickly apprehended. In the incident captured by security cameras, the Beyoğlu Public Order Bureau teams identified the attacker as Oytun I. Oytun I. was caught in a park in Kasımpaşa and was transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after processing at the police station. It was revealed that Oytun I. had a history of psychological treatment and had records for 'Drug use' and 'Disturbing the peace and tranquility of individuals.' Oytun I. was arrested by the court on charges of 'Attempted murder' and sent to prison. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT HE RECEIVED PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENTThe attacker, who fled the scene after the assault, was caught and detained in Kasımpaşa. In a written statement made by the Istanbul Police Department, it was stated that "the suspect caught in Kasımpaşa has a record for 'drug use' and 'disturbing the peace and tranquility of individuals' and it has been determined that he received psychological treatment." The statement also noted that investigations related to the incident are ongoing. HE SHARED A VIDEO THREATENING POLICE ON SOCIAL MEDIAIt has emerged that Oytun I. publicly threatened police officers on his social media account months ago. In the videos that Oytun I. recorded with his mobile phone and shared on social media, he was seen saying, "I invite that police officer to a duel. They were crowded there and armed. I couldn't say anything. But I want to fight one-on-one, man to man." THE ATTACKER'S MOTHER SPOKEThe mother, who said her son had psychological issues, hid her face from the cameras and expressed her shame. In a statement to Ekol TV reporters, the attacker's mother said regarding her son being outside despite his psychological problems, "Ask the doctors who released him, not me. I had him hospitalized twice by court order. They kept him for 2 weeks and then released him."
