At the assembly held at the Haliç Congress Center, 12 candidates competed, and 161 ballot boxes were set up. In the assembly, where 64,072 lawyers had the right to vote, the ballot boxes closed at 17:00. While the ballot officials counted the votes, the lawyers followed the results on the screen set up. In the election, İbrahim Özden Kaboğlu from the Lawyers for Change Group was elected president with 7,219 votes.
12 CANDIDATES COMPETED
Initially, the İlke Contemporary Lawyers Group drew attention as the only group participating in the election with two candidates due to the candidacy of the current Bar President Filiz Saraç and Vice President Ali Gürbüz. In the assembly, Hasan Kılıç from the Rise of Lawyers Movement Group, Mert Er Karagülle from the Strong Bar for Change Group, Turgay Bilge from the Lawyers' Rights Group, Türkan Kara from the Young Law Movement Group, Metin Uraçin from the Istanbul Lawyers Union Group, Abdülhalim Yılmaz from the Independent Lawyers Group, İbrahim Özden Kaboğlu from the Lawyers for Change Group, and Hakan Çatak from the Istanbul Nationalist Lawyers Group competed for the presidency. Yasin Şen and Savaş İşleyen participated in the presidential election as independent candidates.
"WE EMBRACE EVERYONE"
After the results were announced, Lawyer İbrahim Özden Kaboğlu, who gave a thank-you speech, stated, "The results show that the Istanbul Bar Association has won. The victory of the Istanbul Bar Association means the victory of the law. First of all, I congratulate all the candidates. We competed in a civilized manner. We competed in a way that befits the dignity of legal professionals, and the results came from the ballot box again. Now, in this respect, although the Group for Change has undoubtedly won, actually all groups have won. Because we constantly emphasized the law. We set out to make the law effective. We set out for a democratic rule of law, for a secular and democratic republic based on human rights. You voted for our promises with your votes. We embarked on a collective participatory method. We declared that we would establish an inclusive administration. We embrace everyone," he said.
