Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport aims to increase its passenger capacity to 47 million with the new T1 terminal building. T1 will serve 4 million passengers and will be integrated with the existing terminal through a special bridge system.

Continuing its efforts to increase passenger capacity, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport's soon-to-open terminal building T1 will serve 4 million passengers. Thus, the total passenger capacity of the airport is aimed to exceed 47 million.

The first terminal building T1, which is undergoing renovation works in collaboration with the Presidency of Defense Industries' subsidiary Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Ground Authority HEAŞ and Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport Investment, Construction and Operation Inc. (ISG), is preparing to serve its guests with a new vision. The aim is to increase the capacity of Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, which accounts for approximately 22% of the flight traffic in Turkey, by reactivating the T1 terminal, which will serve approximately 4 million passengers. Thus, it is targeted that the total capacity of Sabiha Gökçen's first terminal T1 and the existing terminal T2 will reach over 47 million passengers.

TWO TERMINALS WILL BE CONNECTED BY A SPECIAL BRIDGE SYSTEM

The new terminal building T1, expected to open soon, will connect to T2 with a special bridge system spanning 24,000 m². The T2 and T1 buildings will be integrated with a connection bridge approximately 240 meters long. The T1, planned to operate as a satellite terminal, will be connected to the existing terminal (T2) starting from the International Departures Gate 201 through a special bridge system, allowing passengers to benefit from the 8 additional boarding gates available at T1. After completing check-in, baggage, and passport procedures at the main terminal building (T2), passengers will transition to T1 via moving walkways. This will provide a comfortable travel experience for passengers waiting for their flight times without causing any congestion.

SEISMIC ISOLATOR TECHNOLOGIES USED FOR EARTHQUAKE RESISTANCE

Among the most earthquake-resistant structures, the existing terminal building of Sabiha Gökçen International Airport utilized advanced seismic isolator technologies to ensure uninterrupted service during potential disaster situations during its construction phase. Similarly, drilling and geophysical research for strengthening projects of the T1 building; ground improvement, data, and geotechnical project works have been completed, and renovation works are continuing at full speed within this scope.

PARKING CAPACITY WILL BE INCREASED

The airport parking lot will be increased to a capacity of 6,752 vehicles. Once the T1 renovation and activation project is completed, the terminal parking capacity will also be increased, in addition to passenger and aircraft capacity. The existing multi-storey parking lot in front of T2 will be increased from a capacity of 4,517 vehicles to 5,543 vehicles. The bus stops used by intercity transportation vehicles will be relocated to a location close to the metro station exit in front of T1, minimizing passenger walking distances and ensuring easy access within the airport. In this project, vehicle entry and exit locations will also be organized, increasing the existing T1 parking lot's capacity from 607 vehicles to 1,029 vehicles. Thus, the airport parking capacity will be increased from 5,124 to 6,752.
