8 CHILDREN LOST THEIR LIVES IN 24 HOURS
According to a report by the Dhaka Tribune, a statement from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Bangladesh Ministry of Health reported that 8 children showing symptoms of measles died in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the total number of suspected measles-related deaths rose to 684, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths were recorded as 95.
EMERGENCY VACCINATION CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED
Additionally, 974 new suspected measles cases were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of suspected cases nationwide to 115,138. The government of Bangladesh had decided to launch an emergency vaccination campaign on April 7 after numerous children died with suspected measles.
Measles, which can lead to pneumonia and encephalopathy, is one of the leading causes of vaccine-preventable deaths worldwide.
