It has been reported that the death toll from two major earthquakes that occurred on June 24 in Venezuela has risen to 3,685.
Venezuela's National Assembly President (AN) Jorge Rodriguez shared the latest situation in the country, which experienced two major earthquake disasters, in a statement on his social media account.
Rodriguez stated that the number of deaths from the disaster rose to 3,685 and noted that the number of injured in the earthquakes was 16,740.
Rodriguez said the number of temporary shelter centers established for citizens who lost their homes increased to 87, and more than 9,603 tons of food were delivered to those in need.
TENT CITIES ARE BEING ESTABLISHED
According to local media, authorities have accelerated debris removal efforts in La Guaira state, which suffered the highest loss of life and property, while volunteer work continues in tent cities.
The Turkish Red Crescent had distributed 500 hygiene kits to those in need in cooperation with the Venezuelan Red Cross at a tent camp established in the Playa Grande area of La Guaira, the region most affected by the earthquake.
TWO MAJOR EARTHQUAKES OCCURRED
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that two earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 occurred in Venezuela on June 24, 39 seconds apart.
In a statement on June 26, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) estimated the cost of direct physical damage caused by the earthquakes at $6.7 billion.
In the country where search and rescue operations continue, there are concerns that the number of dead and injured may rise further.
