An object that washed ashore on Istanbul's Karaburun coast and was initially assessed to be debris from a crashed kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was controlledly destroyed by SAS teams after explosive material was found on it.
Citizens noticed a suspicious object in fragments on the coastline between Arnavutköy Karaburun Beach and Çatalca Ormanlı Beach and reported the situation to the authorities.
SAS COMMANDOS IMMEDIATELY INTERVENED
In the initial examination by teams dispatched to the area, it was assessed that the object might belong to a shattered kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicle. Upon the notification, teams from the Coast Guard Marmara and Straits Regional Command and the Underwater Defense Group Command were dispatched to the scene.
EXPLOSIVE FOUND ON IT
During the technical inspection of the suspicious object, SAS commandos determined the presence of explosive material. After security measures, the SAS teams carried out a controlled destruction.
