The Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, who visited Ankara, was welcomed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Esenboğa Airport.

A HISTORICAL FIRST

Turkey's Ambassador to Muscat, Muhammet Hekimoğlu, stated regarding Haitham bin Tariq's visit to Turkey, "Undoubtedly, the fact that a head of state from Oman will visit Turkey for the first time in history holds significant meaning." He explained that the relations between the two countries began during the Seljuk period and continued to develop from the 11th century onwards, noting that relations advanced significantly during the Ottoman Empire, with ongoing correspondence filled with goodwill and praise between the Ottoman and Omani sultans.

SPECIAL GIFT FOR THE SULTAN OF OMAN

President Erdoğan met with the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, at the Presidential Complex. After the meeting, Erdoğan presented the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, with the Istanbul Mushaf. Calligrapher Hüseyin Kutlu provided information about the Istanbul Mushaf to President Erdoğan and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.

Erdoğan participated in the signing ceremony of agreements and a joint press conference with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq at the Presidential Complex.

In his speech at the press conference, President Erdoğan stated, "(Turkey-Oman trade volume) We aim to increase our economic and commercial relations to reflect our existing potential to 5 billion dollars in the first phase."

President Erdoğan said:

"Starting from 2025, with the commencement of liquefied gas supply from Oman, we will enter a new era in our energy cooperation."

"I want to emphasize that we will not hesitate to do whatever is necessary to establish urgent, fair, and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, as we cannot achieve regional and global peace otherwise."

"It is a significant step, albeit late, that President Biden announced they would initiate a new effort for a ceasefire in Gaza."

"We will certainly do whatever is necessary to establish calm and peace in Gaza."

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq expressed:

"We have complete confidence in the Turkish economy. By bringing the economies of both countries together, we can present a stronger stance. We can do many things with a joint investment fund."

"We can cooperate especially in the fields of energy, defense, R&D, innovation, and the food industry. We should also continue to cooperate for a two-state solution regarding Palestine."

CEREMONY OF STATE MEDAL AT THE COMPLEX

During the ceremony, President Erdoğan awarded the State Medal to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, while Bin Tariq presented the Al Said Medal to President Erdoğan.

10 CRITICAL AGREEMENTS SIGNED BETWEEN TURKEY AND OMAN

After one-on-one and inter-delegation meetings at the Presidential Complex, a signing ceremony for various agreements between the two countries took place.

In the presence of Erdoğan and Bin Tariq, 10 agreements were signed between the two countries.

The agreements signed are as follows:

- "Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Venture Between the Ordu Assistance Institution and the Oman Investment Authority"

- "Memorandum of Understanding on Investment Cooperation Between the Investment Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman"

- "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Water Between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Sultanate of Oman"

- "Memorandum of Understanding Between the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey and the Authority for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises of the Sultanate of Oman"

- "Agreement on Cooperation in Health and Medical Sciences Between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Sultanate of Oman"

- "Memorandum of Understanding Between the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey and the Central Bank of the Sultanate of Oman"

- "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Labor and Employment Between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Sultanate of Oman"
