Construction work has resumed on the Geminbeli Tunnel in Sivas, which began 13 years ago. A new date has also been announced for the opening of the tunnel that will connect Central Anatolia to the Black Sea, and the Black Sea to the Mediterranean.
Construction of the Geminbeli Tunnel, which is planned to connect Central Anatolia to the Black Sea and the Black Sea to the Mediterranean between the Zara and Suşehri districts of Sivas, began in 2013.
COULD NOT BE COMPLETED IN 13 YEARS
The tunnel in question still could not be completed despite the 13 years that have passed. The Geminbeli Tunnel, which could not be finished under eight different ministers of transport and whose construction has turned into a saga, caused difficulties for drivers during the winter months. The tunnel, with a total length of 8.6 kilometers, has victimized the local population.
DATE GIVEN FOR THE 7TH TIME
Yusuf Yaşar Öcal, Regional Director of Highways 16th Region, who attended the Sivas Provincial Coordination Board Meeting, said, "We have 35 ongoing projects in our province. I would like to provide information about a few of these that are important. Work on the Geminbeli Tunnel started two weeks ago. We are currently completing the missing manufacturing inside the tunnel. We will open it to traffic in the second half of the year, hopefully. Our work will continue quickly. With the weather conditions improving a bit, we plan to have our Geminbeli Tunnel ready by September 4. That date will also be a meaningful opening for Sivas."
