Spanish businessman Xavi Caballol (49) and his girlfriend Alba Serch's lives changed completely after the plane crash they experienced last year. The couple, who crashed their private plane at Viladamat airport in Girona, is now fighting to hold on to life in a wheelchair.
Known for their luxury cars and extravagant vacations on social media, the couple crashed from a height of 45 meters on October 19. The engine of the ultralight aircraft failed during a maneuver, and the moment of the accident was captured on camera second by second. While the couple suffered spinal and bone fractures, a fracture in Xavi's skull led to paralysis in part of his face.
"We learned a lot from this accident," said Xavi, "They say ultralight planes are safe, but they are definitely not. Only very experienced pilots should make these kinds of flights. I have done the same maneuver hundreds of times, but I had never experienced anything like this." he explained.
Previously known on social media as "Ferrariman" and drawing attention with their luxurious lifestyle, the couple now looks at life with completely different eyes. Xavi, who is trying to learn to walk again with intensive physiotherapy, said, "We used to be very selfish and only thought of ourselves. This accident taught us the feeling of understanding and helping others. We found a second chance in life, and we are very grateful for that."
Stating that he will never fly again despite having a pilot's license, Xavi hopes to prevent similar accidents by sharing the crash footage and also wants to put an end to the unfounded rumors surrounding the incident.
