The plane, offered for sale with a starting price of 10 euros, equivalent to the cost of two coffees, has attracted significant interest.
An unusual auction process has begun in Spain. According to the announcement published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) and carried out by the Spanish Airports and Air Navigation Authority (Aena), an abandoned aircraft that has been waiting for its owner at Seville Airport for years will be sold through an auction. The notice stipulates that the starting price for the twin-engine Piper PA-23 151/160 Apache (EC-GKA) model aircraft is 10 euros, and the required guarantee deposit from participants is only 0.50 euros.
ANNOUNCED THREE TIMES IN THE OFFICIAL GAZETTE, OWNER NOT FOUND
The aircraft in question has been sitting in the parking area of Seville Airport since at least 2018. Officials, who made extensive efforts to reach the true owner as per legal procedures, formally announced the situation in the Official State Gazette (BOE) over three separate periods to call potential claimants. However, despite all these efforts, no claimant came forward, and the aircraft was legally classified as 'abandoned' and added to the auction list.
ANYONE MEETING THE CONDITIONS CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE AUCTION
Any individual, company, or institution that meets the conditions specified in the auction terms published in the BOE can submit a bid for the auction. Aena officials stated that they have encountered a heavy flow of emails following the announcement and expressed that interest is very high. After the application process is completed, the date for opening the bid envelopes will be announced by the management of Seville Airport.
FLIGHT IS IMPOSSIBLE, BUT IT HAS COLLECTION VALUE
The Piper PA-23 Apache, one of the first mass-produced, four-seat, all-metal twin-engine aircraft developed by the American aircraft manufacturer Piper Aircraft Corporation in the 1950s, was among the most popular models of its era.
However, Aena warns not to be deceived by the symbolic starting price of 10 euros. Officials emphasize that the aircraft is in very poor condition due to years of neglect and state that it is not possible for the plane to take to the skies again.

Experts also highlight the real market value of the aircraft, which has been put up for auction with a symbolic starting price of 10 euros. Depending on the condition and technical equipment of the model, the average global market price ranges for Piper PA-23 Apache type aircraft are listed as follows:
Maintenance-required and older-equipped models: 35,000 to 60,000 US dollars
Flight-ready and standard-condition models: 60,000 to 130,000 US dollars
Top-tier models with modern cockpits and overhauled engines: 150,000 to 225,000 US dollars
It is noted that the aircraft in Seville is considered to have scrap/collection value due to being in non-flyable condition, while its airworthy counterparts are worth a fortune.
