Traffic police officer Mehmet Ali Topatan, who was martyred during an unlicensed taxi inspection in Esenyurt, was bid farewell. Following the ceremony at the Istanbul Police Department, Topatan's funeral was brought to Fatih Mosque, and after the funeral prayer, he was laid to rest at the Edirnekapı Police Martyrs' Cemetery. At the funeral, the cries of the young police officer's wife were heart-wrenching.
Police officer Mehmet Ali Topatan, who was martyred in an armed attack during a traffic enforcement in Istanbul Esenyurt, was sent off on his final journey after a ceremony held in his honor. Following the ceremony at the Istanbul Police Department headquarters on Vatan Avenue, Topatan's body was taken to Fatih Mosque. After the afternoon funeral prayer, the martyred police officer was laid to rest at the Edirnekapı Police Martyrs' Cemetery.
CEREMONY HELD AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
A ceremony was held for Topatan, who was martyred during a traffic enforcement, at the Istanbul Police Department headquarters on Vatan Avenue.
Attending the ceremony were the martyr's family and relatives, as well as Deputy Minister of Interior Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Istanbul Provincial Police Chief Selami Yıldız, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General İdris Tataroğlu, Coast Guard Marmara and Straits Regional Commander Rear Admiral Serkan Tezel, and numerous colleagues.
"THE HIGHEST RANK OF LOVE FOR THE HOMELAND"
Speaking at the ceremony, Istanbul Provincial Police Chief Selami Yıldız offered his condolences to the family and relatives of the martyr Mehmet Ali Topatan.
Stating that martyrdom is the highest rank of love for the homeland, Yıldız said, "We commemorate with mercy and gratitude all our martyrs who fell to the ground for the sake of the homeland, foremost among them martyred police officer Mehmet Ali Topatan, and we remember our veterans with thanks."
HIS BODY WAS CARRIED ON SHOULDERS
After the ceremony, Topatan's body was carried on the shoulders of the ceremony squad and civilian traffic police and placed into the hearse.
The martyred police officer's body was then taken to Fatih Mosque. After the afternoon funeral prayer held there, Mehmet Ali Topatan's body was laid to rest at the Edirnekapı Police Martyrs' Cemetery.
During the funeral, the cries of our martyred police officer's wife broke hearts.
ARMED ATTACK DURING TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT
Topatan was martyred during a traffic enforcement carried out on Fatih Sultan Mehmet Avenue in the Akevler neighborhood of Esenyurt.
After police teams processed a vehicle they determined to be engaged in illegal taxi operations, the driver Ekrem A. opened fire on the police teams with a weapon.
Traffic police officer Mehmet Ali Topatan, who was seriously injured in the attack, could not be saved despite all interventions at the hospital and was martyred. Following the incident, an investigation was launched into the attack.
