The preliminary expert report regarding the collapse of the 7-story building in Maltepe, Istanbul has come to light. In the report, it was learned that the decision regarding the demolition of the illegal floors was not implemented, while the building's architect and construction site supervisor were found at fault.
The preliminary report prepared by experts in the investigation into the collapse of a 7-story building in Maltepe, Istanbul, has emerged. In the report, it was determined that the demolition decisions taken years ago for the floors of the building constructed in violation of the permit were not implemented.
PROSECUTORS AND INSPECTORS ASSIGNED FOR THE INVESTIGATION
While the investigation into the building that collapsed in Maltepe continues, a deputy chief prosecutor and two public prosecutors were assigned to investigate all aspects of the incident.
Two civil administration inspectors were also assigned to determine whether there was negligence, fault, or responsibility on the part of public officials in the planning, construction, and renovation processes of the building.
DEMOLITION DECISION TAKEN FOR ILLEGAL FLOORS WAS NOT IMPLEMENTED
In the preliminary report prepared as a result of the experts' examinations, striking details regarding the building constructed in 1987 were included.
According to the report, committee decisions were taken regarding the building on June 16, 1989 and April 18, 1990. It was decided to demolish the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th floors that were subsequently built without a permit. However, it emerged that the said demolition decisions were not implemented despite the years that passed.
ARCHITECT AND SITE CHIEF FOUND AT FAULT
In the experts' preliminary report, it was determined that the building's architect Hasan Balcı and site chief Mevlüt Okumuş were at fault. While the judicial investigation into the collapse of the building continues, inspector examinations to determine possible negligence by public officials are also ongoing.
