In a statement from DMM, it was noted that the claims shared on some social media accounts, stating that "the earthquake experienced in Istanbul may have been triggered by drilling at the fault line where the GPS SATURN ship is anchored," are not true.

The statement recorded the following; "It has been determined that the images used to strengthen the claim were recorded during the passage of the Jack-Up Drilling Platform, which Renaissance Industrial Facilities will use in BOTAŞ's North Marmara Natural Gas Storage Project, through the Istanbul Strait in December 2018. On the other hand, the GPS SATURN ship, which is the subject of the claim, has no drilling activities in the Sea of Marmara where the earthquake occurred in 2025. It has been determined that it is currently anchored in the Black Sea, near Bulgaria, and has been in a fixed position for 340 days. Therefore, the claim that 'the earthquake occurred at the point where the ship is anchored' is also completely false.
