The Presidency's Communication Directorate Disinformation Combat Center stated, "The claim shared by some social media accounts that a trustee has been appointed to the 'Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality' (IMM) is not true."
The Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested as part of an ongoing corruption investigation, has been removed from his position by the decision of the Istanbul Governorship.
DENIAL OF THE TRUSTEE ALLEGATION
Following the Governorship's decision regarding İmamoğlu, claims emerged on social media that a trustee had been appointed to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). The Presidency's Communication Directorate's Disinformation Combat Center (DMM) issued a statement denying the allegation.
In a statement made from DMM's social media account, it was said, "The claim shared by some social media accounts that 'a trustee has been appointed to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality' is not true. The Ministry of Interior has announced that the Mayors of Istanbul Metropolitan and Beylikdüzü have been temporarily removed from their positions as a precaution due to their detention. Accordingly, the Istanbul Governorship has announced that a Deputy Mayor will be elected in the municipal councils of Istanbul and Beylikdüzü on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Therefore, the appointment of a trustee to the relevant municipalities is not the case. Please do not give credence to baseless claims aimed at manipulating the public."
