The General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Turgay Türkyılmaz, conducted inspections at the Aquaculture Production Facility in the Gölköy area.
PRICE PER KILO IS ONE EURO Stating that sturgeon and carp fish, which are world-famous for their caviar sold at a price of one thousand euros per kilo, are produced at the facility, Türkyılmaz said, "We are working to stock our lakes and ponds, and when necessary, our seas, by producing both carp and sturgeon. Because fish is a significant source of protein for our citizens living in rural areas. We are working for the efficient and sustainable management of these resources both as a protein source and for their livelihoods. Our General Directorate has 7 ongoing facilities, including our production station in Gölköy. We produce different species of fish in these 7 facilities. In Gölköy, we have been focusing on sturgeon in addition to carp fish in recent years. The carp fry produced here are sent to other provinces for stocking purposes. It is responsible for 8 provinces, including Bolu. The amount of fish we produced from here this year has exceeded 6 million," he said.
"WE ARE STARTING TO TAKE THE LEAD" Türkyılmaz also stated the following in his remarks:
"We have been producing sturgeon here for 2-3 years. We obtain approximately 500,000 sturgeon fry annually and are working to improve the sturgeon stock in the Black Sea Region. The capacity here is quite suitable, and we have further developed the infrastructure recently. Considering the water constraints, we have also established a closed-loop system to produce without using excessive water. We can say that the caviar obtained from sturgeon is highly sought after in the global market. Approximately 1 gram is around 1 euro. Among the countries that do this best are Iran, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine. In the upcoming period, in a very short time, we will also start to take the lead in this business in our country. Especially in the Elazığ region, we have a facility that is very equipped and has world-class experience, which has taken on this task. They operate under our knowledge, control, and guidance. Currently, sturgeons that have reached sexual maturity and can produce black caviar have been brought to a certain age and size. After reaching maturity, they will undergo certain processes and be presented to the world market. We are a bit ambitious about this."
