After the earthquake in Istanbul, a citizen who entered a gas station in Zeytinburnu exposed the opportunism taking place. A bag of sunflower seeds that was labeled 50 lira on the shelf had risen to 55 lira at the checkout. The citizen, reacting to the situation, received the response, "There was an earthquake, so we are turning this into an opportunity. There's nothing else."
The earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 that occurred off the coast of Silivri in the Sea of Marmara on April 23 caused fear and panic. On the day of the earthquake, a motorcyclist entered a gas station in the Zeytinburnu district of Istanbul to buy sunflower seeds.
"WE ARE TURNING THE EARTHQUAKE INTO OPPORTUNISM"
A citizen who took the sunflower seeds, which were marked at 50 lira on the shelf, was shocked when he went to the cashier. The cashier said the price of the product had risen to 55 lira. The citizen reacted to the situation with the statement, "It said 50 lira. Am I not right?" and received the response, "Well, there was an earthquake. We are turning this into opportunism. There is nothing else."
"PEOPLE ARE IN DANGER, BUT THEY ARE IN PURSUIT OF OPPORTUNITY"
A citizen who shared the footage he recorded on social media said, "There is a disaster, people are in danger... These people are in pursuit of opportunity! This footage I recorded at a gas station in Zeytinburnu reveals the opportunism and fraud that emerged after the earthquake we experienced. Those who should be by the people's side in such times are busy filling their pockets. The government needs to put a stop to this! This is not just the fault of one business; it is a systemic problem! If we see such situations and remain silent, we may experience something worse tomorrow."
