A provocative post from a newspaper's social media account in Aydın, deemed to be creating a perception against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, prompted the prosecutor's office to take action. The Aydın Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the post under the crime of "Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information" as regulated in Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code.

It was reported that on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, an image was shared on the Facebook account named "Denge Gazetesi," belonging to Aydın Denge Gazetesi, featuring statements in yellow and white on a black background that could create the impression that President Erdoğan had passed away. It was stated that the post was linked to a death notice for a citizen named "Gülşen Erdoğan" published on the newspaper's website.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

While the post was considered to be of a nature that could create a false and misleading perception against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on social media, an investigation was initiated ex officio by the Aydın Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident.

Within the scope of the investigation, it was determined that the newspaper's representative was Emin Aydın, the responsible editor-in-chief was Yeşim Ülken, and the news reporter was İslam Keleş. It was learned that efforts to determine the preparation and publication process of the post and the responsible parties are ongoing within the scope of the prosecutor's investigation.
