Upon the objection of the AK Party, the Istanbul 2nd Administrative Court rendered its decision regarding the deputy mayor elections in the Uskudar Municipality. The court decided to renew the elections.
The election for the deputy mayor held by the Üsküdar Municipal Council on August 5, 2026, following the arrest of Sinem Dedetaş on charges of "bribery," "graft," and "establishing and managing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes," was marred by incidents. While the CHP candidate won the election, the AK Party filed an objection with the court.
COURT ACCEPTS AK PARTY'S OBJECTION
The Istanbul 2nd Administrative Court, evaluating the AK Party's objection, has rendered its decision. The court suspended the execution of municipal council decision number 76. The court, which examined the lawsuit filed by council member Dündar Ziya Gültekin, ruled that irregularities were committed in the vote count and that election security was violated. The court ordered that the elections be renewed.
TUMULTUOUS ELECTION IN ÜSKÜDAR MUNICIPALITY
In the election, which lasted four rounds, the CHP Group's candidate, Sibel Tan Çetinkaya, was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Üsküdar with 22 votes. The AK Party's candidate, Ziya Gültekin, received 18 votes, while 4 votes were deemed invalid.
During the election, a dispute arose among party members over the ballots, and after the election, the AK Party stated that there was injustice in the vote count and announced that they would initiate legal proceedings.
