A customer who paid one thousand lira for four portions of cacik at a restaurant in Ankara filed a complaint with CİMER, claiming that the price was not clearly stated on the menu. In an inspection conducted by Ministry of Trade teams, it was determined that the prices of 34 products on the price list at the entrance of the establishment and on the QR code menu were different. Following the detected violations, the restaurant was issued an administrative fine of 135,082 lira.
After examining the bill after eating at the restaurant, the customer noticed that 250 lira was charged for each of the four servings of cacik.
Reacting to the total 1,000-lira cacik charge, the customer applied to the Presidential Communications Center (CİMER), arguing that the price was not clearly stated on the menu.
After the customer publicized what happened on the internet, teams from the Ministry of Trade launched an investigation at the restaurant.
PRICES OF 34 PRODUCTS DID NOT MATCH
During the inspection, the price list at the entrance of the establishment was compared with the digital menu accessed via QR code.
In the examination, it was determined that the prices of 34 products differed in two separate lists.
In the QR-coded menu, the price of one serving of cacik was stated as 250 lira. However, the comparison made by the teams revealed that the price discrepancy was not limited to cacik.
RESTAURANT FINED 135,082 LIRA
Following the identified price differences, an administrative fine of 135,082 lira was imposed on the business under the first paragraph of Article 9 of the Price Label Regulation.
Ministry of Trade Press and Public Relations Advisor Bekir Kaplan also confirmed in his statement that an inspection was carried out at the restaurant following the complaint received by CİMER. Kaplan stated that an administrative fine was imposed on the business due to regulatory violations identified during the inspections.
