A network that smuggled diamonds into the country at Istanbul Airport has been dismantled. The diamonds found in the luggage of a foreign national suspect revealed a fraud worth 250 million liras.

Consequently, security teams at Istanbul's airports took precautions and, after intensified efforts, stopped a person who was seen entering the country through Istanbul Airport and was suspected due to their behavior. The passenger was first subjected to a body search. 58 grams of diamonds and gold jewelry were seized from the suspect. The unnamed diamond smuggler was taken into custody, and the operation was expanded. Further investigations revealed that the precious stones were to be brought into the country illegally and would be released into the market by the network, indicating they were preparing for a major haul.

A second operation was carried out at the residence of the suspect, who was caught at the airport's arrival terminal with 58 grams of diamonds and gold jewelry, located in the Fatih district. During a raid on the apartment on the third floor of a five-story building, two more suspects were captured and taken into custody. During the searches conducted in the house, 151 kilograms and 361 grams of diamonds, emeralds, rubies, quartz, mother-of-pearl, amethyst, and 940 pieces of jewelry such as necklaces, rings, and earrings with precious stones were seized, with a market value of approximately 250 million lira.

The captured diamond smuggler and the three suspects were taken to the Istanbul Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Division for questioning. It was learned that investigations regarding the suspects for the crime of "5607 SKM" were ongoing. Meanwhile, the diamonds, emeralds, rubies, quartz, mother-of-pearl, amethyst, and jewelry made with precious stones seized at the airport and the house in Fatih were displayed at the police station.
