Rojin Kabaiş, a first-year student in the Department of Child Development at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University (YYÜ) Faculty of Education, went outside after having dinner at the dormitory on September 27. Friends who could not reach Rojin Kabaiş by phone reported her to the police around 12:00 on September 28. It was determined that Kabaiş had said she would go to collect pebbles at the Van Lake Shore around 18:30 on September 27 and that a friend she had offered to go with had responded negatively. On September 28, Rojin's mobile phone, headphones, cake, and water were found at the Van Lake Shore. The phone was handed over to the police for examination. HEADSCARF FOUND ON THE BEACH ON OCTOBER 10For Rojin, who told her mother on the phone that she would go to the market to buy coffee, water, and cake, the police, Gendarmerie Coast Guard, AFAD, and the fire brigade teams of the Metropolitan Municipality initiated a search operation. Police teams occasionally provide aerial support to the search efforts, which also include volunteer search and rescue teams. In the operations, side-scan sonar devices sent from the Çanakkale Police Department, the gendarmerie's surface radar, and the police's underwater imaging devices are also being used. Approximately 400 vehicles entering and exiting the Bardakçı neighborhood have been examined since the day Rojin went missing. On October 10, a headscarf belonging to Rojin was found on the beach. SEARCH OPERATIONS FOCUSED ON THE AREA WHERE DIGGING WAS DONE YESTERDAYThe search efforts for Rojin have particularly concentrated in the area between Yüzüncü Yıl University and Bardakçı neighborhood, where the headscarf was found. Cadaver dogs brought from the Diyarbakır and Erzurum police departments are also being used in the search operations. As the search enters its 16th day, the area was scanned with a metal detector after a cadaver dog reacted yesterday. Police teams also conducted excavations in some areas. On the lake, boats and vessels, and on land, police search and rescue, gendarmerie, AFAD, fire brigade, and volunteer teams are thoroughly searching the coast between Yüzüncü Yıl University and Bardakçı neighborhood. Abandoned structures in Bardakçı neighborhood, gardens of houses, and reed beds near the campus are also being checked. However, no trace of Rojin has been found so far in the conducted operations.
