In Kocaeli's Derince district, six defendants, four of whom are in custody, appeared before the judge for the first time regarding the murder of Murat Tosun, who was killed in the schoolyard he came to pick up his 7-year-old son. DIED IN THE SCHOOLYARD HE WENT TO PICK UP HIS SONThe incident occurred on February 5 in the schoolyard located on Tufan Street in the Yenikent neighborhood. Murat Tosun (33) was attacked by two individuals with knives in the schoolyard of the primary school he came to pick up his son. Tosun, who was injured in various parts of his body, was severely wounded, and the attackers fled. After the first intervention, Murat Tosun was taken to the hospital but could not be saved and lost his life. 4 OF 6 SUSPECTS ARRESTEDTeams from the Homicide Bureau of the Public Security Branch, which launched an investigation into the incident, detained Mehmet K. (51), his son Bilal K., and his future daughter-in-law H. B., as well as K. K., his wife B. K., and their daughter S. O., who were identified as being involved in the incident. While suspects Birsen K. and her daughter S. O. were released after their statements were taken, the other four suspects were arrested and sent to prison. "BOILING WATER POURED OVER MY HEAD"The first hearing of the case opened regarding the incident began at the Kocaeli 3rd High Criminal Court. The hearing was attended by both detained and non-detained defendants, lawyers for the parties, and witnesses. Bilal K., one of the detained defendants who recounted his experiences related to the incident, said, "H. B. has been my girlfriend since 2022, and later we got engaged, dreaming of marriage. However, while I was working in Zonguldak, her speech changed. When I asked what happened, she said she was harassed on the bus. After learning about the incident, I came to Kocaeli, comforted her, and went back. A week later, she was still upset. She explained that the bus incident had a continuation. She told me that a person was following her and attempted to rape her while she was returning home from work. Boiling water poured over my head. I came again from Zonguldak, told my mother about the incident, and cried. In the morning, I went to H.'s father's house. I explained the events, and he said to me, 'I don't believe you. You said that to come here because you work in Zonguldak.' After a while, H. B. called me and said, 'Why did you tell my father? He kicked me out of the house.' She called me to her side, saying she saw the person she claimed harassed her," he said. "HE WAS BEING TRIED FOR HARASSING HIS NIECE"Bilal K. stated that they went to the bus stop where the alleged harassment took place with his fiancée, saying, "We waited at the stop, but we couldn't find the person said to be the harasser. I didn't know the person's name or face. H. B. hadn't told me anything until that moment. When I asked who he was, she said she didn't know him. While we were waiting at the stop, she suddenly said that the person who harassed her could be Murat Tosun, the uncle of her childhood friend S. O. I didn't know Murat Tosun, but he was being tried in the heavy criminal court for allegedly harassing his niece S. O. H. B. called S. and asked for a photo of her uncle Murat. She said she would identify the uncle who harassed her from the photo. S. said she didn't have the photo and told her mother B. K. about the situation. B. K. then sent a photo of her brother Murat to H. H. B. cried, saying it was the man who harassed her. We went to their house at the invitation of Aunt Birsen. Aunt B. K. said, 'If he really harassed you, let's file a complaint,'" he expressed. "I WANTED TO INJURE, I DIDN'T WANT TO KILL"Bilal K. stated that they left home to file a complaint against Murat Tosun, saying, "Uncle K. B. showed us the person's house and left. Just as we arrived there, the person named Murat got into a car and left. My father, H. B., and I followed the person by car. Since the person was described to me as very dangerous, I took the knife from the glove compartment to protect myself and got out of the car. When Murat looked back, he saw H., who was crying. I couldn't control myself; after what I heard, I wanted to injure the person, I didn't want to kill him. H. and I were supposed to get married in 6-7 months. My father and H. didn't know that I would stab Murat. My father tried to separate us. When we struggled, he only threw one punch. We left the scene, and later I regretted it and surrendered to the authorities," he said. "I THOUGHT SHE WAS A VIRGIN"Bilal K. stated that he was planning a future with H. B., saying, "We were supposed to get married in 6-7 months. I thought H. B. was a virgin, but it turned out she had a relationship with another person before me and got pregnant, had an abortion. When I told H. about it, she said it wasn't true, but I learned from the indictment that H. and her family had lied to me. I feel guilty. I thought a lot about why H. B. lied to me if there was no such thing; my world collapsed. It was also said that the victim had harassed his own niece. That's why I believed H.," he said. Mehmet K., one of the defendants, who expressed his condolences to Murat Tosun's family, said, "I work in Zonguldak. One night, my wife called me. She said Bilal had come home and was crying a lot, and there were some issues, and she called me to Kocaeli. When I got home, I called H. and my son to me. I asked what happened. Both cried and didn't explain. My wife told me. She explained that the person had cornered H. in the coal shed. H. said she didn't know the person. H. and my son went to the stop, a photo came, and she identified him. While we were going to the police station to file a complaint, H. saw the person and his car. My son Bilal followed the person by car. I said, 'Let's file a complaint,' but they said, 'Let's talk first.' Later, my son started to fight with the victim. I only slapped him once; I didn't do anything. I learned from the indictment that H. had rented a place with someone else, got pregnant, and had an abortion. Why did she put my son in this situation then? Our only aim was to talk to the man," he said. "HE HARASSED ME ON THE BUS AND IN THE TUNNEL"The defendant H. was given the right to speak for his defense. B. claimed that she was harassed by a person sitting next to her on the bus, saying, "I was disturbed by the person's gaze. He put his hand on my shoulder. There was a bus button behind me. I thought he was going to press the button, I didn't suspect any bad intentions, I stood up and said, 'You are getting off, I guess.' He was surprised and said, 'Yes,' and got off. I moved to the window seat, but even though the vehicle moved, he didn't get off. I got off in front of my house and didn't suspect any bad intentions, but I was affected. Two days later, I thought I saw the same person again and, out of fear, I took a taxi home. Two days later, the same person cornered me in a place under our house that was like a tunnel. He pulled down both his and my pants, and I immediately ran home. I didn't file a complaint because I was scared. I confirmed that the person who carried out the last incident was Murat Tosun, as I saw his face clearly," she said. "BILAL SAID I WAS RAPED AND DID NOT WANT TO MARRY"H. B., who said her psychology deteriorated after the incidents and that she quit her job, stated, "My fiancé Bilal called me, I told him I would go to a psychologist. Bilal argued with me because I wasn't wearing my ring. I said, 'Is the problem the ring? Do you know what I went through that you are asking about the ring?' I only explained the incident I experienced on the bus. A week later, Bilal called me while drunk and asked if I had been raped. I said that it didn't happen, but he didn't believe me. He said that if I told everything, he wouldn't judge me and would take me with him. After that, I also explained the harassment incident I experienced in the tunnel. Bilal came from Zonguldak to Kocaeli and told my father what happened. I asked Bilal why he told my father, and I said that was why we fought. Bilal said that I was raped and that he did not want to marry. I said that I was not raped. We went to their house together. Bilal and his father asked if I knew the man, I actually recognized him from the tunnel incident, but I didn't say anything because I was scared. I know the victim from my friend S. O.'s case, but I don't know him personally. In fact, they were going to make me a secret witness in that case. Bilal only said he would beat the man and turn him in to the police. I have never had sexual relations with anyone other than Bilal. The issue of me getting pregnant and having an abortion is also not true," she expressed. "SHE SAID SHE WAS HARASSED BY MY BROTHER"The detained suspect B. K., whose statement was taken, said, "H. came home crying and hugged me. She said she was harassed by my brother Murat. I asked her several times, 'Are you sure?' She said she was sure. I told her she needed to file a complaint. She said she would go to the police with my wife," he said. Detained suspect S. O. stated, "On the day of the incident, H. called me and said she was harassed by my uncle. I said, 'Are you sure? My uncle doesn't take the bus. He has his own service vehicle and car.' H. said my uncle squeezed her arm, but she didn't say anything else. H. asked for a photo of my uncle. I told her to send it to my mother, saying I didn't have one. H. previously had a relationship with M. S. H. told me she was pregnant by M. and even had a test done. The families intervened, and they took H. B. to M.'s house. Then her mother-in-law had the baby aborted, and after a while, H. returned to her father's house. Bilal cared about virginity. H. said, 'I will bring my sexual relationship with Bilal to the last day of my period, I will deceive him.' She lied about being pregnant and about virginity so that Bilal wouldn't break up with her. The claim that H. does not know my uncle is a lie," he said. "WE TOLD HER SHE NEEDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT"Detained suspect K. K., who did not accept the accusations, stated, "My wife called me and said Murat harassed H. We took S. O. from work and went home. S. also had a case because she was harassed by her uncle. We told them they needed to file a complaint as well. We set out to go to the police station, I definitely did not show the victim's house," he said. Witness G. S. stated, "My son M. and H. had a relationship for about 5 months, but she did not get pregnant. I do not accept my previous statement that H. got pregnant. I have no information or knowledge about the incident," he said. M., who was also heard as a witness, confirmed his mother's statement. The court panel decided to release K. K. while continuing the detention of the other three suspects and postponed the hearing. FROM THE INDICTMENTThe indictment stated, "H. B. became pregnant from a past relationship and, in order to hide that she was not a virgin, told her fiancé Bilal, who is sensitive about virginity, that she was subjected to harassment and attempted rape without any concrete evidence, and the events developed." It was noted that an investigation was conducted regarding H. B.'s claims that Murat Tosun harassed her on the bus and attempted to rape her in front of her house, and that during the investigation, the camera recordings of the bus she boarded at that time were examined based on H. B.'s city card information, and no footage related to the harassment was found. Additionally, the investigation revealed that the victim Murat Tosun had boarded a bus for the last time in 2020, according to his city card information, which indicated he had a 40% disability. Furthermore, it was stated that no concrete evidence was found regarding the attempted rape allegation.
