In Colombia, 22-year-old social media influencer María José Estupiñán Sánchez was killed by a person posing as a courier in front of her home. The attacker fired at the young woman from close range and fled the scene. A possible motive for the murder is linked to a trial that Estupiñán had recently attended.

In a horrific incident in Colombia, 22-year-old social media influencer María José Estupiñán Sánchez was killed by a person who approached her under the pretense of delivering a package in front of her home.

The incident occurred in the La Riviera neighborhood of Cucuta, near the Venezuelan border. When the young woman stepped outside her home, a man posing as a courier approached her and opened fire at close range. The bullet struck her directly in the face.

Security camera footage shows the attacker fleeing the scene quickly, wearing a black hat, jacket, and backpack. Estupiñán, who was taken to the hospital, could not be saved despite all efforts.

Cucuta Police Chief Colonel Leonardo Capacho stated, "The woman was killed by a man pretending to deliver a package."

The police are focusing on a recent court hearing attended by the victim as a possible motive for the murder. María José had testified against her ex-boyfriend in a domestic violence case earlier this month. According to NDTV, the young woman was set to receive approximately $7,100 (230,000 TL) in compensation. Her ex-boyfriend is currently being investigated as the main suspect, but no formal arrest has been made yet.

Estupiñán was studying media at Francisco de Paula Santander University and dreamed of becoming a television presenter after graduation. She was also modeling while continuing her education.

In a statement from the university, it was said: "We absolutely reject any form of violence that extinguishes the dreams of our youth. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends."

Magda Victoria Acosta, the head of the National Gender Commission of the Colombian Judiciary, commented, "She was a young and enterprising woman with a long life ahead of her. Her dreams, like those of many women in this country, were cut short."

Human Rights Watch states that violence against women is widespread in Colombia, and most perpetrators go unpunished.

This tragic event occurred shortly after a TikTok star was shot and killed during a live broadcast in Mexico.
