The decline in Borsa Istanbul since the beginning of the year has caused many stock investors to incur losses. Due to inflation, investors who aimed to keep their investments in Turkish Lira and evaluate them in Borsa Istanbul have lost against inflation and also suffered losses in their principal due to stock declines. Another aspect of the loss was related to the companies that went public. Companies that were publicly offered with large campaigns did not yield high returns contrary to expectations, and since the beginning of the year, losses in some companies are expressed in percentages of 50. THERE ARE EVEN THOSE WHO HAVE LOST ALL THEIR MONEYIn Borsa Istanbul, where large investors are facing losses, the situation has been a disaster for small investors in the first 10 months of the year. Since January, out of 7.5 million stock investors; 1 million 275 thousand people have lost all their assets in the stock market, 4 million people have lost half of their assets, and 2 million people have lost 30% of their assets. This collapse, experienced in the aftermath of the 2001 crisis, is causing hopes for Borsa Istanbul to fade away. PUBLIC OFFERINGS BROUGHT LOSSES INSTEAD OF PROFITSThe situation is the same for companies that went public in 2023. Companies that experienced significant rises after their public offerings have joined the ranks of stocks that have caused losses for investors as of 2024. Exactly 26 companies are trading below their public offering prices. KOTON, which was offered at a share price of 30.5 TL, is currently priced at 17.05 TL with a decline of 44.10%. When considering inflation figures since the beginning of the year, the real value loss in the stock exceeds 60%. THE BIGGEST LOSS WAS EXPERIENCED BY SMALL INVESTORSTHYAO, one of the favorites of Borsa Istanbul, has been added to the list of negative return stocks against inflation with an annual increase of 18.27%. Companies that have been growing steadily over the years have disappointed their investors both against inflation and in numerical value since the beginning of this year. In an environment where global risks have increased, the decline that has not been seen even in the stock markets of Ukraine and Israel is increasing indecision among investors.
