In the Taşova district of Amasya, a sudden severe storm, hail, and downpour wreaked havoc within minutes. Roofs flew in the air, trees fell onto cars, and a mosque minaret collapsed, turning roads into lakes and injuring one person. While neighborhood residents were caught off guard, emergency teams were mobilized for flooded homes and workplaces.
A sudden severe storm, downpour, and hail paralyzed life in Taşova district of Amasya. According to initial assessments, the roofs of 41 houses were blown off, a mosque minaret partially collapsed, and trees were uprooted, leaving one person injured.
SUDDEN RAIN TURNED ROADS INTO LAKES
The thunderstorm, hail, and severe wind that started around 4:40 PM in Taşova negatively affected daily life. Due to the adverse weather conditions that intensified in a short time, water puddles formed on streets and avenues, and some homes and workplaces were flooded. Certain roads were closed to traffic due to the rain and storm.
MINARET COLLAPSED, TREES FELL ON VEHICLES
Under the effect of the severe storm, numerous trees were uprooted across the district, and building roofs were blown off. The minaret of a mosque in Çaydibi village partially collapsed due to the storm. Fallen trees, especially at Aydın Çiftçi Apartments in Sanayi Neighborhood, caused damage by falling on parked vehicles.
AMASYA GOVERNORSHIP ANNOUNCED THE TOLL
In a statement from the Amasya Governorate, it was reported that reports flooded the 112 Emergency Call Center from 4:50 PM onward. The statement included the following expressions:
"According to initial assessments, the roofs of 41 houses were blown off, a mosque minaret partially collapsed, floods occurred, and numerous trees were uprooted. One of our citizens was injured in the incidents, and their treatment at the hospital is ongoing with no life-threatening condition."
Following the reports, AFAD, health, fire, police, gendarmerie, and highway teams were dispatched to the region. Teams continue evacuation and cleanup efforts in flooded areas. Amasya Governor Önder Bakan and Taşova District Governor Turan Bayram also visited the disaster zone for on-site inspections.
"WE WERE VERY SCARED TOO"
Emre Öz, a resident of Çaydibi village, one of the areas most affected by the storm, described the terrifying moments with the following words:
"When the storm hit, our animals were in the barn. They were very scared, so we immediately took them out. Our barn's roof blew off, and there was a hole in the barn ceiling. We were also very scared. The minaret of our village mosque was also damaged."
