The suspect arrested for sexual assault against a university student in Florida attempted to sexually assault a female detective during his transfer to jail; the incident was recorded in police logs.
Steven Rivers (30), who was arrested on charges of sexual assault and robbery against a student on the campus of Florida Memorial University (FMU), attempted to sexually assault a female detective while being taken to a police vehicle. The moments were captured on security cameras.
According to the police report, Rivers was arrested on Tuesday for allegations of harassment and sexual assault against the student. DNA evidence confirmed his connection to the incident, and the suspect was taken into custody as part of the investigation.
HARASSED THE DETECTIVE
It was reported that the next morning, while being transported, the suspect reached behind the female detective holding the door in front of him and attempted to grab her groin area with his arm. The teams quickly subdued the suspect, pushing him towards a metal barrier to prevent further actions. According to police records, Rivers reacted with laughter during the incident.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES FILED
Rivers had previously been released in December 2025 for a charge of lewd behavior in Palm Beach County. With this new incident, he faces additional charges of "attempted sexual assault," "assault on a police officer," and "resisting arrest."
"THERE MAY BE MORE VICTIMS"
The Miami-Dade prosecutor's office requested that the conditions of his arrest be made stricter, citing that the suspect poses a potential danger to the community. The court set bail at $505,000 for the initial charge and $5,501 for the additional charges. Police are seeking information from the public for new statements and evidence, suspecting that there may be more victims related to Rivers.
