The suspect's statement in the neighbor murder in Fethiye has emerged: I wish I had died.

In a fight that broke out in Fethiye over the noise of a garden gate, Osman Küçükgüzel, who killed his neighbor Ramazan Çalışkan and wounded his wife and daughter, was arrested. Stating in his statement that the incident was not momentary but based on a year-long issue, the suspect said, 'I fired two shots without aiming at a target. My intention was not to kill anyone. I wish I had died instead of anyone getting hurt.'

The repercussions of the tragic incident in the Fethiye district of Muğla, which broke out between neighbors over the noise of a garden gate and resulted in one death, continue.

Details have emerged of the statement given to judicial authorities by Osman Küçükgüzel (62), who was arrested after killing his neighbor Ramazan Çalışkan (42) with a shotgun and wounding his wife and daughter in the Eldirek neighborhood. The suspect claimed the incident was not due to a momentary outburst of anger, as alleged, but because of a long-standing door dispute.

"THE INCIDENT'S BACKGROUND DATES BACK A YEAR"

In his statement, suspect Osman Küçükgüzel said that he had been having ongoing problems for about a year because of the noise made by the sliding iron gate between him and his neighbor. Claiming that he had complained to the police station about the noise a week before the incident, Küçükgüzel argued that the problem was not resolved despite warnings from law enforcement, and that harassing actions continued on top of that.

"I FIRED WITHOUT AIMING"

Explaining that a verbal argument began between the parties when he wanted to rest at home on the day of the incident upon hearing the gate noise again, the suspect claimed he suffered a nervous breakdown after mutual insults. Stating that he took the shotgun from his home and went outside, Küçükgüzel defended himself by saying, "I fired two shots without aiming. My intention was not to kill anyone."

"I HAVE BEEN UNDER PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT FOR 6 YEARS"

Also drawing attention to his health condition in his defense and stating that he has been undergoing psychiatric treatment and taking medication for a long time, the suspect expressed great remorse for the incident, saying, "I wish I had died instead, so that no one would have been harmed."

While the suspect, who was referred to the courthouse after procedures at the gendarmerie and subsequently arrested, continues to undergo prison proceedings, the treatment of the mother E.Ç. and her daughter, who were seriously injured in the incident, continues at the hospital, along with the multifaceted investigation into the matter.
