Atilla Cücü, who was released from prison on parole after raping and murdering a 9-year-old girl in Adana 26 years ago, killed his friend because he urinated on himself and then threw the body into a canal. In court, Cücü confessed to his crime, saying, "My friend loved me very much. May God have mercy on him."

Atilla Cücü (65), who was responsible for cleaning and footwork at the Adana Bus Station, called 9-year-old T.O., the daughter of his neighbor, to his home under the pretense of getting cigarettes in 1998, raped her, and then strangled her to death. Cücü wrapped the little girl's body in a blanket and threw it into a sewage pit. After the incident, the murderer was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Adana 2nd High Criminal Court in 2000, with 6 months to be served in solitary confinement.

GRANTED CONDITIONAL RELEASE, KILLED HIS FRIEND

After serving his prison sentence for the brutal murder of the little girl, Atilla Cücü was granted conditional release and this time killed his friend. Murat Arlı, who worked as a bus assistant and stickman, went missing on December 16, 2024. Three months after Arlı's disappearance, his family, unable to reach him, reported him missing to the police. On March 10, a male body wrapped in a blanket was found on the beach in the Tabaklar neighborhood of the Karataş district, and it was assessed that the body might belong to Arlı. However, due to the body being deformed from being in the water for a long time, the teams could not identify it. After taking a DNA sample from Arlı's son for comparison, it was determined that the body belonged to Arlı, and a large-scale investigation was initiated.

SENT HIS FRIEND'S PHONE TO HIS SON

After 4 months of physical and technical surveillance, the teams determined that Arlı's mobile phone was being used in Kars. It was found that the mobile phone belonged to Atilla Cücü's son, Kemal, who had stayed with Arlı at the bus station, and that the phone had been sent to Kars by Atilla Cücü.

CONFESSED TO THE MURDER

Atilla Cücü, who was caught and arrested, faced charges of "Intentional Murder" in the Adana 13th High Criminal Court. The detained defendant, Atilla Cücü, participated in the hearing via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS) from the prison where he was held. During the hearing, which was also attended by the children of the murdered Murat Arlı, Doğukan and Mert Arlı, as well as the defendant's lawyer, the suspect Cücü confessed to his crime in his defense.

"I PUSHED HIM WHEN HE URINATED ON ME"

Cücü, who stated that he had known Murat Arlı for 5-6 months and that they had stayed together in an empty office at the bus station, explained how he killed his friend: "We even ordered food for each other. There was no problem between us. Murat had urinated on me before. I had warned him not to do it again. On the day of the incident, he came drunk. While he was sleeping, around 11:00 PM, he urinated on me again, so I got up from the bed and pushed him against the wall. When he hit the wall, he fell to the ground and became motionless. I changed my clothes and tried to take him to the hospital on the back of my motorcycle, but he fell twice. I checked his pulse; he was dead. Out of fear, I didn't think to call anyone. I wrapped Murat's body in the blanket I found next to the trash and threw it in the canal. My friend loved me very much. May God have mercy on him. I don't understand how it happened."

"I FOUND THE PHONE OUTSIDE THE ROOM"

The defendant Cücü stated that he did not know the mobile phone he sent to his son living in Kars belonged to the friend he killed, saying, "I found the phone outside the room. I took out the SIM card and sent it to my son to give to his mother. My wife and son were not aware of the incident. I am not worthy of my family," he said.

MADE A CALL FROM A PAYPHONE TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE HE WAS ALIVE

The defendant Cücü also confessed that he made a call from a payphone to make it seem like his murdered friend was still alive, saying that he unintentionally killed his friend and was very remorseful, appealing to the court for justice.

The sons of the murdered Murat Arlı, Doğukan and Mert Arlı, stated that the defendant was lying and demanded that he be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

PROSECUTOR SOUGHT LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The court prosecutor presented his opinion on the case. The prosecutor requested that the defendant Atilla Cücü be sentenced to life imprisonment for "intentional murder." The court panel decided to continue the detention of the defendant Atilla Cücü and postponed the hearing for a later date for a decision.
