On Wednesday, November 27, armed opposition groups launched an operation against the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, overthrowing the 61-year-old Ba'ath regime within 12 days without engaging in any conflict. The Syrian National Army, which continues its advance in the region, secured control in Manbij and Deir ez-Zor, areas left behind by Bashar al-Assad as he fled the country to the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, and made another critical move today. As part of the Freedom Dawn Operation initiated by the Syrian National Army (SNA), they liberated the Tishrin Dam, which provides a significant portion of the water and electricity supply for the provinces located in the eastern part of the country, from the occupation of the terrorist organization PKK/YPG. The SNA secured control of the Tishrin Dam, which had been under the occupation of the PKK/YPG terrorist organization since 2015, as part of the operation. The Tishrin Dam, located south of the Manbij district and one of the important dams on the Euphrates River, is the largest and most significant dam captured so far. Approximately 70% of Syria's electricity needs are met by the Tishrin, Tabqa, and Ba'ath dams. The Tishrin Dam, located on the western bank of the Euphrates River, fell into the hands of the YPG/PKK with the support of the U.S. on December 27, 2015. The dam was the first point occupied by the terrorist organization on the west side of the Euphrates. The U.S. established a base at the dam in January 2016.
