In the operation organized against drug trafficking in Istanbul Atasehir, 2 suspects, who were determined to have transported drugs by commercial taxi, were caught. In the searches conducted on the taxi and in the house raided simultaneously, 44 kilos of skunk, 50 grams of cocaine, a precision scale, and 9,650 lira were seized.
The report of a drug shipment by taxi in Ataşehir prompted Istanbul police into action. The commercial taxi, placed under technical and physical surveillance by narcotics teams, was stopped after being followed for a while. In the same minutes, an operation was also carried out on the house determined to be connected to the suspects. While the taxi driver and one suspect found at the house were taken into custody, 44 kilograms of skunk and 50 grams of cocaine were seized in the searches.
TAXI CAME UNDER SURVEILLANCE OF NARCOTICS TEAMS
Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Anti-Narcotics Branch Directorate launched an investigation following a tip-off about drug trafficking in Ataşehir.
Examining the suspects' movements, police teams placed a commercial taxi, considered to be used for drug shipment, under technical and physical surveillance. After the taxi was followed for a while, action was taken for the operation.
While the vehicle was stopped by police teams, a search of the taxi began. The operation did not end there. Teams simultaneously carried out a raid on the house where the suspects were determined to be located.
44 KILOS OF SKUNK FOUND IN TAXI AND HOUSE
In detailed searches conducted in the commercial taxi and the house, 44 kilograms of skunk-type narcotics and 50 grams of cocaine were found.
Police also seized 1 precision scale, considered to be used for weighing the narcotics, and 9,650 liras in cash. It is assessed that the seized money may have been obtained from drug trafficking.
While the amount of drugs seized in the operation drew attention, it was learned that the investigation into where the substances were obtained from and to whom they were planned to be delivered is ongoing. Within the scope of the operation, the commercial taxi driver and one suspect found at the house were taken into custody. Thus, the number of those caught within the scope of the investigation became 2.
