A 4-year-old girl named Rumeysa Altundağ, who was experiencing severe abdominal pain in Şırnak, was taken by her family first to Cizre State Hospital and then to Şırnak State Hospital. During the endoscopy, it was determined that the 4-year-old child had foreign objects in the shape of bracelets in her stomach and intestines. Rumeysa Altundağ, who was taken for surgery, had 24 colorful toy magnets removed from her intestines and stomach.

Dr. Selim Özkaya, who stated that they encountered such a case for the first time, said that the surgery was successfully completed. Dr. Özkaya noted that the magnets caused partial perforations in the intestines, saying, "Our patient is a 4-year-old girl. She came to our state hospital in Şırnak due to severe abdominal pain, and during the examinations, it was determined that she had swallowed a foreign object. Following this, she was referred to our hospital's Gastroenterology department for an endoscopy. It was observed during the endoscopy that the foreign objects were colorful magnets, and half of them were not visible in the stomach. Our patient had swallowed 24 small colorful magnets. After the endoscopy procedure, we planned an operation for our patient. In the surgery we performed, it was found that half of the magnets were in the stomach and half in the intestines, and that they had stuck together, causing perforations in parts of the intestines. We repaired these sections. Our patient has started eating after the surgery, has no issues, and we plan to discharge her," he said.

Dr. Özkaya, who also warned families, advised especially those with small children to keep such toys away from their homes. Emphasizing that they should not allow such toys into their homes if necessary, Dr. Özkaya continued:
"With this opportunity, we want to warn and raise awareness among our families. We recommend that families keep these types of colorful small magnets away from children. Colorful small magnets are more attractive to children, and they can swallow them, so we advise them to keep such toys away from children and even not to allow them into their homes if necessary."
SWALLOWED ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO
Dr. Özkaya pointed out that the magnets removed were swallowed about a year ago, saying, "We think that these magnets have been swallowed for about a year. Because the colors of these magnets have changed and they are rusted. Therefore, she has been experiencing abdominal pain intermittently for a year. These are colorful and strong magnets," he stated.

Father Servet Altundağ said, "We went to the emergency room due to abdominal pain. The doctors in Şırnak referred us to Batman Training and Research Hospital. They said they could not do anything there because she had swallowed a foreign object, so they referred us here. Thank God we found our cure here, and I thank Dr. Selim and his team. I recommend that families keep such objects away from their children; it happened to us, and I hope it does not happen to others," he said.
