The United States Postal Service (USPS) has decided to suspend parcel shipments from China and Hong Kong until further notice. This decision came after the U.S. imposed additional tariffs on imports from China. However, it was stated that letter delivery will not be affected.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) announced that it has suspended the shipment of packages coming from China and Hong Kong.
According to a report by the American Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the USPS stated that the decision to suspend the popular package shipments among Chinese traders and e-commerce operators will remain in effect until further notice.
PACKAGES ARE NOT BEING DELIVERED
The statement indicated that the suspension of package shipments from China and Hong Kong would not affect mail delivery. It is noteworthy that this announcement comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order on February 1, imposing a 25% additional tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, and a 10% additional tariff on imports from China. Trump announced that the implementation of the tariffs on Canada and Mexico would be delayed for one month in exchange for stricter border controls in those countries, but no delay was announced for China.
RETALIATION FROM CHINA TO THE U.S.
China also announced that in response to Trump's decision to impose a 10% additional tariff on all products imported from the country, it would impose additional tariffs on certain products imported from the U.S. In a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Finance, it was noted that a 10% additional tariff would be imposed on products imported from the U.S., including crude oil, agricultural equipment, high-emission vehicles, and trucks, while a 15% additional tariff would be applied to coal and natural gas imports.
