Romanian Super League team Rapid Bucharest has signed Gabonese striker Aaron Boupendza, whose transfer to Egyptian team Zamalek was cancelled. The transfer was announced by Rapid Bucharest's coach, Marius Sumudica. The 28-year-old forward was the top scorer in the 2020-2021 season in the Turkish Süper Lig, scoring 22 goals for Hatayspor.

Rapid Bucharest, one of the teams in the Romanian Super League, is signing former top scorer of the Trendyol Super League, Aaron Boupendza, whose transfer was announced by the Egyptian team Zamalek but canceled due to difficulties.

BOUPENDZA ANNOUNCED BY SUMUDICA

Marius Sumudica, the head coach of the Romanian representative, announced the signing of the experienced striker. Sumudica stated, "Aaron Boupendza did not sign a contract with Zamalek. I received many messages asking how we managed to transfer a player like him. We reached an agreement. Official documents are being prepared for the contract. He will come to Bucharest after visa procedures. He would not have come to Rapid if it weren't for me, but the effort shown by the club in financial terms was also important. It is not easy to bring such a player here," he said.

TRANSFER TO ZAMALEK CANCELED

Zamalek, which competes in the Egyptian Premier League, announced on its official account on Sunday, September 8, that it had signed Gabonese striker Aaron Boupendza. The 28-year-old forward had signed a 3-year contract. However, Boupendza's transfer to the Egyptian team was canceled due to difficulties.

HE WAS THE TOP SCORER IN THE SUPER LEAGUE

Aaron Boupendza, who played for Hatayspor, one of the teams in the Trendyol Super League in our country, became the top scorer of the 2020-2021 season with 22 goals. The 28-year-old player transferred to Al Arabi at the end of the same season for a transfer fee of 4.5 million euros. The striker, who spent most of his career in Qatar due to injuries, scored 9 goals in 19 matches. Boupendza signed with Al-Shabab for a transfer fee of 7 million euros in the 2022-2023 season. The Gabonese star had a performance of 17 goals and 7 assists in 36 matches there. Last season, the 28-year-old player signed a contract with Cincinnati, an MLS team, for a transfer fee of 6.5 million euros. Boupendza contributed with 3 goals and 1 assist in 17 matches for the US team. Cincinnati terminated Boupendza's contract. Throughout his career, the striker played 190 matches, scoring 78 goals and providing 18 assists.
