The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the first labor force statistics of the new year. Accordingly, unemployment has decreased to its lowest level in the last 12 months, reaching 8.4%.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced the first labor force statistics of the new year. According to the results of the Household Labor Force Survey, the number of unemployed individuals aged 15 and older decreased by 25,000 in January 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 2 thousand. The unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 points to 8.4%. The unemployment rate is estimated to be 6.5% for men and 12.1% for women.
EMPLOYMENT RATE WAS 49.2%
The number of employed individuals decreased by 195,000 in January 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching 32 million 531 thousand, while the employment rate decreased by 0.3 points to 49.2%. This rate was 66.4% for men and 32.3% for women.
LABOR FORCE PARTICIPATION RATE WAS 53.7%
The labor force decreased by 219,000 in January 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching 35 million 534 thousand, while the labor force participation rate decreased by 0.4 points to 53.7%. The labor force participation rate was 71.0% for men and 36.7% for women.
UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AMONG YOUNG POPULATION WAS 14.9%
The unemployment rate among the young population aged 15-24 decreased by 0.8 points compared to the previous month, reaching 14.9%. The unemployment rate in this age group is estimated to be 10.6% for men and 22.7% for women.
AVERAGE ACTUAL WORKING TIME PER WEEK WAS 43.4 HOURS
The average actual working time per week of those employed during the reference period, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, increased by 0.8 hours in January 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching 43.4 hours.
INACTIVE LABOR FORCE RATE WAS 28.1%
The rate of inactive labor force, consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force, and unemployed individuals, increased by 0.1 points in January 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching 28.1%. The integrated rate of time-related underemployment and unemployed individuals was 18.8%, while the integrated rate of unemployed and potential labor force was estimated to be 18.9%.
