An academic at Mersin University caused debate by sharing as a success that one of his graduated students works as an assistant manager at a supermarket. While some users reacted with comments like "You don't need university for this, professor" and "Assistant manager of a supermarket, what a huge success!", others found it natural for a business administration graduate to work in management.
An academic working at Mersin University sparked a debate with a post he made after encountering his former student, a business department graduate, at a supermarket chain. The academic, noting that his student worked as a senior assistant manager at the supermarket, expressed his happiness about the situation. However, the post brought along different interpretations regarding university education and the position of graduates in business life.
SHARED HIS STUDENT'S SUCCESS
The academic, who serves as an administrator at the University's Career Center, stated that his former student started working at the supermarket chain through a job posting published by the center. Expressing that he was happy to encounter his graduate student, the academic conveyed his wishes for success in his post.
"THERE IS NO NEED FOR UNIVERSITY FOR THIS, PROFESSOR"
The academic's post divided users. Some users reacted to working as an assistant manager at a supermarket after a four-year university education being presented as a success.
One user criticized the post with the words, "The supermarket's assistant manager, what a huge success!" while another commented, "There is no need for university for this, professor."
The comment made under the post, "The manager is sitting in the cashier's place," also drew attention.
SOME, HOWEVER, FOUND IT NORMAL
Contrary to the criticism, some users argued that working in a managerial position at a supermarket chain should not be belittled. Stating that it is natural for a business graduate to work in a managerial position in the retail sector, users expressed that what matters is that the person advances in their profession and builds a career.
