In Arnavutköy, Istanbul, the veil of mystery is being lifted in the murder of 5-year-old Melike Eşiyok, whose lifeless body was found in Sazlıbosna Dam six years ago. As a result of the police investigations, father Cahit Eşiyok, mother Meryem Ataman, and ex-wife Zehra Ö. were taken into custody.

SUSPECTS IN COURT

The suspects, father, mother, and ex-wife, were taken to the Gaziosmanpaşa Courthouse after completing their statements at the Homicide Bureau of the Istanbul Police Department's Public Order Branch. The children of father Cahit Eşiyok were handed over to a child protection institution by the teams.

"THE CHILD DIED DUE TO NEGLECT, I THREW HER INTO THE DAM"

In his first statement at the police station, the father reportedly said, "The child died due to neglect. I later took her and threw her into the dam." The other suspects in custody denied the allegations.

DNA SAMPLES TO BE MATCHED.

The police sent blood samples taken from the suspect father, who was taken to the hospital for a health check, to the Forensic Medicine Institution. It was stated that the DNA samples of the suspect mother and father would be matched with those of Melike, whose lifeless body was found in 2018. It will be clarified after the investigations on the date when 5-year-old Melike was killed and thrown into the lake.

DIVORCED AGAIN 15 DAYS AGO

Meanwhile, new information about the family has emerged. Allegedly, Cahit and Meryem Eşiyok got married in 2008 and had children H.E. (13), E.E. (12), and Melike, whose body was found. On January 15, 2018, the couple decided to divorce due to irreconcilable differences. After this decision, the father lived with Zehra Ö. for a while. Four years ago, in 2020, Meryem and Cahit got married again and had another child named Ö.E. The couple divorced again 12 days ago on November 15.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On November 22, E.E. went to her guidance counselor and said, "My father killed my sister and threw her into the lake," revealing the murder committed six years ago. After the child's statement, the teacher informed the police. The child, who was placed under protection by the police, gave her statement in the presence of a psychologist.
