Continuing to visit political parties in the Parliament, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, met with the Chairman of the CHP, Özgür Özel. After the meeting, which addressed the completed report of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, Kurtulmuş stated, "I hope that the spiral of terrorism and violence will be left behind," while Özel remarked, "When this process succeeds, there will be no losers."
The President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), Numan Kurtulmuş, continues to visit political parties in the TBMM. Most recently, Kurtulmuş met with CHP Chairman Özgür Özel following a meeting with MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.
The closed-door meeting took place in Özel's office in the Assembly and lasted approximately 30 minutes. The two discussed the completed report of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission. After the meeting, Kurtulmuş and Özel made statements to the press.
KURTULMUŞ: I HOPE THE CYCLE OF TERROR AND VIOLENCE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND
TBMM President Kurtulmuş stated: "It was a very nice meeting. I thank the esteemed Chairman and the parliamentary colleagues in the commission for their support of the commission's work. We have completed an exemplary study in terms of Turkish democracy. Our parliamentary colleagues came together around the same table to discuss and debate the issues. 37 people came, and we listened to them. The report, as a result of the negotiations, became a report that all parties agreed upon.
In the appendix of the report, the reports of the political parties were also included. A study has been presented that will serve as an example to the world in terms of conflict resolution. Without needing another moderator, the TBMM and political parties came together with different views and presented a common text to the Turkish public. From now on, I hope that in a short time, especially the concrete proposals expressed in sections 6 and 7 will be addressed by the political parties, and legislative activities will begin in the General Assembly of our Parliament. I hope the cycle of terror and violence will be left behind."
ÖZEL: THERE WILL BE NO LOSERS IN THIS
CHP leader Özgür Özel stated: "During the phase of entering the commission, the most curious topic was probably the stance of the CHP. There were very intense discussions. That day, we said that 'the CHP is the founding party in the country.' We said do not be afraid of the commission that it is not. Despite all political difficulties, we always gave the same answer regarding the commission. If peace is to come to Turkey, and if it is to contribute to everyone's future, everyone must put their hand under the stone to solve this issue. The point we have reached today is a point of consensus. We will carefully follow the process from now on.
It is important that the 6th and 7th articles of our report are implemented without delay and together. The 7th article refers to steps towards democratization. We are talking about a process that is intertwined, not sequential. When this process succeeds, Turkey will have overcome the issue of terrorism, and it is important to respect judicial decisions, Constitutional Court decisions, the rule of law, and for non-custodial trials to be the norm, as well as for the very important steps towards democratization written in the report to be taken as soon as possible. This is the essence and spirit of this report. As the President has expressed, this is the assurance given by this Assembly to each other. When this process succeeds, there will be no losers in this."
