In the celebrations of 'Wednesday Suri' held according to the Hijri Shamsi calendar in Iran, 14 people lost their lives and 1,844 others were injured as a result of explosions.
In Iran, during the celebrations known as "Chaharshanbe Suri," which take place on the last Wednesday night of the year according to the Solar Hijri calendar, and in the preparations leading up to it, 14 people have died and 1,844 have been injured so far.
In the capital Tehran, during the celebrations that began after iftar, some citizens preferred to jump over fires, while others used fireworks, firecrackers, and occasionally homemade explosives.
BLOODY CELEBRATION
The fireworks and explosives fired in the city filled the sky with clouds of smoke. The air in the city was filled with the smell of gunpowder due to the fireworks and explosives used on almost every street and avenue.
In the Yusufabad neighborhood of Tehran, when a tree caught fire due to fireworks, the residents of nearby houses experienced panic.
In the Islamshahr district, an explosive was thrown at an ambulance, rendering it out of service after the explosion.
It was reported that 5 ambulances across the country were also burned as a result of being hit by explosives.
14 PEOPLE HAVE DIED, 1,844 INJURED
According to a statement from the Iranian Emergency Center, despite this, 14 people have died and 1,844 have been injured nationwide during the celebrations and in the preparations leading up to them. It was noted that 6 of the deceased occurred during the days leading up to the celebrations while preparing explosives. The statement indicated that 100 of the injured experienced limb loss, and more than 500 were injured in their eyes.
CELEBRATIONS OF SURI IN IRAN
In Iran, where the Solar Hijri calendar is used, during the celebrations held on the last Wednesday night of the year before Nowruz, especially children and young people jump over the fires, setting off fireworks, homemade explosives, and firecrackers.
Accidents that occur while preparing explosives during these celebrations and beforehand cause dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries in the country every year.
