The White House announced that comprehensive economic agreements that could impact global markets were reached following talks between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. It was stated that the parties agreed to establish trade and investment boards, while China approved the purchase of 200 Boeing aircraft. Additionally, it was indicated that China would buy billions of dollars worth of agricultural products from the US and take steps to address Washington’s concerns regarding rare earth elements.
Following the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, new agreements to strengthen economic relations between the two countries were announced. The White House stated that the parties reached comprehensive agreements in trade, investment, agriculture, and aviation.
US-CHINA TRADE AND INVESTMENT COUNCILS ARE ESTABLISHED
In a statement from the White House, it was noted that Trump and Xi reached consensus on various issues during the first visit by a US President to China since 2017. The statement indicated that the US-China Trade and Investment Councils would be established to enhance economic relations.
The Trade Council would enable the management of bilateral trade in non-sensitive goods, while the Investment Council would serve as an intergovernmental platform to address investment-related matters.
RARE EARTH ELEMENTS AND CRITICAL MINERALS ON THE AGENDA
The statement reported that China would address US concerns regarding disruptions in the supply chain for rare earth elements and other critical minerals. It was also noted that the Beijing administration would consider Washington's demands on restrictions and prohibitions related to the sale of rare earth production and processing equipment and technologies in this field.
CHINA TO PURCHASE 200 BOEING AIRCRAFT
The White House announced that China approved the purchase of 200 American-made Boeing aircraft on behalf of Chinese airline companies. It was emphasized that this agreement is expected to create high-wage and skilled employment in the US manufacturing sector.
BILLION-DOLLAR COMMITMENT IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS
It was announced that China will purchase at least $17 billion worth of US agricultural products annually in 2026, 2027, and 2028. Additionally, it was stated that China has restored market access for US beef products and resumed imports of poultry from certain states.
