The leader of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Ahmed al-Shara (Abu Muhammad al-Julani), who played a leading role in the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, delivered striking messages in his first television address. Al-Julani stated that the Kurds are a part of Syria and mentioned that with the collapse of the regime, oppression has also come to an end.

HTS leader Julani said, "Just like us, they have faced difficulties. But now the regime has collapsed. With the fall of the regime, the oppressions against them have also ended. God willing, we will strive for the people of Afrin to return to their cities."

A response came from Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), to the statements of the Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham leader. Barzani stated that the words of the HTS leader are encouraging.
